HOW TO RESTORE YOUR DATA FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF CHECKBOOK GENIUS TO CHECKBOOK GENIUS ORIGINAL 1.5.2 OR CHECKBOOK GENIUS 2.0.2

Once again, when you start Checkbook Genius (2.0.2) or Checkbook Genius Original (1.5.2) it will only appear that you've lost the data. You have not. Checkbook Genius and Checkbook Genius Original have the new Backup Center, which not only will save multiple folders with your backup files, it will also make it easy to restore your previous versioned data. Here's the steps to follow:

For Checkbook Genius (2.0.2):

1) Start Checkbook Genius.

2) Tap the Accounts button (with the green plus sign icon).

3) Press the Menu button on your Android phone (below the screen).

4) Choose "Backup Center." You'll see a screen that's mostly empty. That's because you'll have few or no Backup Center backups.

Skip to Step 9 under "For Both Versions" below.

For Checkbook Genius Original (1.5.2):

5) Start Checkbook Genius Original.

6) Press the Menu button (underneath your Android phone's screen).

7) Tap "More".

8) Choose "Backup Center." You'll see a screen that's mostly empty. That's because you'll have few or no Backup Center backups.

For Both Versions:

9) Press the Menu button again.

10) Tap the "Restore Prev Version" option.

11) For the "Restore Which Version?" window that pops up, choose the top one, "Version 1.5.0 or 1.4.1" and then "OK".

12) The restoration will take a few moments (more data take longer), after which point you'll see a screen saying "Restore Completed" and some statistics. Tap "OK".

13) Exit the app and restart it. You should see all your data records again.

Going forward, Checkbook Genius and Checkbook Genius Original will be defaulted to have Auto-Backup on (see Preferences) unless you turn it off. Each time you exit the program completely (whether you exit it using Logout/Close or use the Back button repeatedly until you're out of it) it will create a new backup folder with a date and time and your backup files.

Deleting Older Backup Files

Periodically, you will need to delete any extra folders from your Android phone's SD card to regain space. Here's how to do that:

1) Locate the USB cable from your Android phone - this should be in the box. If you don't still have one, you'll need to visit an electronics retailer or a phone dealer.

2) Plug the small end into your Incredible and the large end into your laptop or desktop computer.

3) Depending on which version of Android you're running, you should either see a notification at the top of the screen that you can pull down, called "USB Connected". Tap this to open the SD card on your Incredible as a removable drive. This may actually automatically happen as soon as you plug it in.

4) Start your file manager if one isn't already running. In Windows, this is Windows Explorer; in Mac, this is the Finder.

5) Click on the ChbkGenius folder and then Copy it. (Windows: Edit+Copy or Ctrl+C. Mac: Edit+Copy or Command-C.)

6) Delete the folders with older dates. You may retain as many or as few folders as you like. This is a procedure you should perform every few months.

That's all there is to it!
